Smiles

Ladies and Gentlemen we have a...DOLPHIN! Wait, what?

Zoey has an array of new noises she makes. My favorite would be her dolphin voice. Seriously, think of flipper and you got it. She also likes to grunt and snort and just let out a huge sigh when she seems slightly annoyed. Annoyed? You're a week old kid, how annoyed could you get?!

Every morning we start our day of with skin to skin. It is a great way to get started. Zoey loves it. That is when her grunting really starts gearing up. When she was first born we did skin to skin immediately for the first hour. For people who don't know about it, it is an amazing thing to do with any newborn. Doesn't matter how you deliver you can always do skin to skin. Putting the naked newborn on your skin and let them just wiggle around and root around, they can smell out your breast milk and work their way to it. They eventually latch and viola! Breastfeeding can commence. So anyways, Zoey and I do that every morning. And she is so calm afterwards. She just looks up at me with those beautiful blues (yes blues! please stay?!) and I feel like there is nothing but absolute trust and love.

And one of my favorite things is her smile. Apparently babies "can't" smile, everyone says its just gas...so if that theory is right than my kid farts all the time. Seriously, she must be farting non stop. Because she literally smiles from the moment she wakes up to when she goes to sleep AND when sleeping. Those are the best. Yesterday when Zoey was sleeping in the morning Ian came over and kissed her head and said her name, Zoey's eyes opened so wide and she had this huge grin on her face. And she just looked  and Ian and kept smiling. Both Ian and I started to tear up, I mean this little not even one week old just loves her family so much. She smiles with Cassidy constantly too. Cassidy's favorite game to play is kissing Zoey on her nose and Zoey tries to "eat her". Cassidy squeals and says "mommy she almost ate me!". Melts my heart. Still can't get over the fact that they are sisters. They get to have that special bond. I know there will be tough times as they are close in age and already both are stunningly beautiful ;], so I'm sure clothes, boys, competition will come into play at some point in their lives, but still...sisters. It's such an amazing bond.

I can't believe she is a week old already. A week. Where did these past seven days even go? Zoey is doing great. Since we got discharged early we had a VNA come in twice to check on Zoey and myself. On Friday she had lost some weight, as normal, she had lost 6oz. No big deal. But when the VNA came back on Monday, she had gained a pound! In two days, my little chubbah gained a whole pound!! yay breastmilk! Her little umbilical cord got pulled on so it started to come out, I felt so bad. But the doctor took good care and cauterized it so it won't get infected. But my gosh, she has the sweetest little belly button.
